Workers injured in explosion at California rocket company

Fire officials, police and even a bomb squad crew rushed to the Aerojet Rocketdyne facility in Rancho Cordova, California, last Tuesday morning after a blast was reported around 8:00 a.m. Authorities say that the explosion was some kind of accident. Two workers suffered injuries. One of the workers reportedly was treated on site. The second worker suffered more serious injuries and was transported to the hospital after the blast.

Cal-OSHA says 'Valley Fever' is on the rise in California

The California Division of Occupational Safety and Health says that a condition known as Valley Fever has been on the rise among California workers. The state Department of Health says that roughly 60 percent of Valley Fever cases are relatively mild and many people who become infected may never see symptoms. But, Valley Fever (which is technically called Coccidioidomycosis) can be serious for some workers who have been exposed.

BART update: officials question 'simple approval' protocol

Our fellow Californians to the north have experienced some controversy over the last few weeks in the wake of a strike by the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) system. During the strike, two BART workers were killed when a train hit them while they were on the tracks. They were performing a track maintenance check. We wrote about this incident a few weeks ago -- but there has been an update.
