No two jobs in California are the same. Each comes with unique responsibilities, but more importantly, each comes with its own share of risks. Even an office job can be dangerous in some respects, but few jobs compare to the perils associated with working at a construction site. There are too many variables, too many climbs up onto ladders and scaffolding and too many power tools and pieces of heavy machinery for a hard hat-wearing worker to ever be completely safe from the threat of a fatal accident.
Recently, a Bel-Air Estates construction site was the location of such a fatal on-the-job accident. A construction worker suffered catastrophic injuries in what the Los Angeles Fire Department said was a “significant medical emergency” at approximately 12:20 p.m. Although local firefighters rushed to the scene, rescue workers pronounced the man dead at the scene.
The 56-year-old construction worker was carrying out his job duties at a multilevel residential property, which construction crews have been building for some time now. The property has a 300-foot hillside. Based on preliminary information, it appears that the man may have fallen to his death, as firefighters needed to hoist his body to the street with ropes.
The man’s exact cause of death, and further details related to the accident have yet to be revealed. The coroner’s office is currently investigating how he may have died.
Since this man was performing his job duties at the time of this fatal event, it’s likely that his on-the-job activities were covered by workers’ compensation insurance. As such, the man’s close family members and dependents may be able to receive workers’ compensation death benefits if they submit the appropriate applications in a timely manner.
