A construction worker was injured in a recent accident that occurred at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. It was reported that the workplace accident occurred just after 10 a.m. on a recent Friday morning. The workplace injury suffered by this California worker sent him to the hospital in a critical condition.
The injured man was employed by a scaffolding company who was cited by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration in 2013. That citation followed an on-the-job injury of another worker. In the latest accident, the worker was reportedly erecting scaffolding in the building’s elevator shaft when he fell from the seventh floor to the sixth floor. He apparently suffered fractures to both legs as well as to his pelvic bone.
There are not many details available about this accident, but falls from scaffolds make up a significant percentage of injuries suffered by construction workers. Scaffold structures that are not erected according to prescribed regulations pose various safety hazards. There are also strict rules related to the quality of the materials used for scaffolding, as damaged steel and substandard planking can lead to serious workplace injuries or worse.
After the workplace injury suffered by this worker, he will likely be unable to return to work for an extended time. Furthermore, he may need surgery and extensive therapy. The medical costs may be high, and the lack of income may cause financial difficulties. Fortunately, most California workers are covered by workers’ compensation, and benefit claims may be pursued. Those with workers’ compensation claims often choose to consult with experienced attorneys who focus on protecting their rights while pursing optimal results.
